Consider the Ant

Proverbs 6:6-11--"6Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: 7Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, 8Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest. 9How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? 10Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: 11So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man."

A sluggard is a person who is consistently lazy and sluggish. This is a person that does not work as he should. The Bible gives us plenty of instruction for how we should treat work:

2 Thessalonians 3:10--"For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat."

1 Corinthians 10:31--"Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God."

Colossians 3:23--"And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;"

Here are a few verses that tell us the importance of work according to the word of God. Work is important and we should be a people that stay busy doing that which is good!

The instruction from Proverbs is to consider the ant. The ant does not have a boss or ruler, but the ant works harder than nearly any other creature on earth. Why does the ant work? The ant knows that it must work if it is to survive. If the ant does not work in the harvest then it will die in the winter. The ant counts the cost and knows the wisdom on working now!

How about us today? Do we consider the work? Do we consider the ant?

We need to work! We must work! There is so much work that needs to be done for the cause of Christ. We should consider the ant and her ways and be wise.
